Suba - Harrisburg

FINALLY making it to Suba tonight for Tapas. Any recommendations for 'must tries' on the menu?

What specifically were you unhappy with? I have been wanting to go. I have been to Tapas Teatro in Baltimore but live in Carlisle so Suba seems like a good place to get some tapas without all the driving (in theory). Would you still recommend it?

Hmm... that's weird - my report was 3 paragraphs long when I originally posted it??? Anyway, the food just didn't live up to expectations. We tried 9 items on the menu and only 3 were really enjoyed - the octopus, the saltada (sauteed greens) and tomato bread. The others were nothing special or down right disappointing. For example, we ordered 2 items that had crab meat: fritters - which were like a really poor quality crab cake with the cheapest crab meat used in them, and the peppers stuffed with crab, which turned out to just be peppers stuffed with the fritter mixture. The bacon wrapped dates were burnt and the server couldn't tell me anything about the cheeses on the cheese plate except that "one is manchego". My husband and I have done small plates many times, but were surprised that several of the items were barely large enough to share -- we literally had to cut the one fried artichoke heart into 2 pieces so we could each have a small bite. I wasn't expecting it to be Jaleo in D.C., but I was expecting better.

I love Mangia Qui, and really wanted to love Suba too, but I don't know that I would recommend it. My mojito was really, really good. Otherwise.... I just don't get it. Maybe we just ordered the wrong thing? But there are enough places around that I want to try that it will be a very long time before we give it another chance. I much preferred Culturas in Lancaster (upstairs at El Serrano) despite that fact that it is tapas with a South American twist rather than traditional.

Thanks so much for all the info. I teach Spanish and go to grad school near El Serrano and my grad school classes went to Jaleo together as well. It's good to know Culturas is pretty good. I have been wanting to try Mangia Qui as well so I'm glad to hear that that section is good.
