Lunch/Brunch for big group

I love Montreal for all of the small bistros and quaint cafes, but I have family coming in this week and am looking for a place that can accomodate 12. It's not a large group, per se, but as a waitress I know groups are not always welcomed at restaurants. Any reccos for a brunch/lunch place this weekend, for a group of adults and a few teens?

I've been wanting to try out Cafe Souvenir and La Grand-Mere Poule - any idea if they would be good for such a group? I'm also looking for food that is memorable, on par with say the Sparrow.

Thankya kindly!

Hey guys, thanks for all the suggestions! Unfortunately we didn't end up eating on the island, we were on the South Shore instead. Which is just as well, the traffic was so crazy with the nice weather!

A family member recommended The Breakfast Club {http://restomontreal.ca/restaurants/index.php?section=viewresto&resto_id=200&lang=en}, which, being in the suburbs, accomodated our big group well. Their hollandaise sauce is definitely worth trying! And I love how prices are cheaper there...

Back on the island, I almost got a reservation at La Cantine {http://www.lacantine.ca/menus}, whose brunch seems pretty interesting. Seems like brunch with a creative Quebecois twist. Would love to hear about it if someone goes in the future!

I've heard that Restaurant Biron on Amherst has an excellent brunch and can accommodate groups. I think they even have a private room for groups. I think the menu is online http://www.restaurantbiron.com/ It seems brunch is only served on weekends, but I've heard good things about the lunch and dinner.

If you're willing to forgo the traditional, Kaza Maza is now serving brunch on weekends.

Could it be a good substitute for (now closed) Bazaar's lunch ?

Going by the KM brunch menu, I'd say it's less fancy and less fusiony. Friends who have been say it's very enjoyable.

I have great memories of brunch at Coo Rouge on Amherst. Such a quirky little place. They put out a real spread for brunch - when I went they had an entire poached salmon which was absolutely fantastic.

Finding something on par with the Sparrow will be difficult, I think it's the best brunch in town! Cafe Souvenir is good, but it's a small place so I'm not sure they can seat a group of 12. La Grand-Mere Poule is closed.

I can think of two places that might fit the bill. In the Mile-End area, there's EM Cafe (5718 avenue Du Parc, emcafe.ca) which has a good brunch with the usual choices: omelets, eggs benedict, pancakes etc. They have a nice big table in the middle that can be reserved for groups, I've been there with my family and they liked it.

The other option is La Fabrique (3609 Rue Saint-Denis, across from Carre St-Louis). I haven't had their brunch yet (dinner is excellent), but I've heard some very good things. The brunch menu is supposed to be small and fairly innovative, so it may be more Sparrow-like. They have tables towards the back that can be reserved for groups. It has a funky decor and an open kitchen, it's part of the wave of hip bistros that seems to be sweeping the city.

beware, as I learned last saturday, La Fabrique brunch is only served on sunday, NOT saturday.

Lemeac has the brunch/lunch combinaison your looking for, and accomodates larger group, but call ASAP to reserve.

That was my first tough that has both a brunch and lunch offering on the menu, but there are so many other brunch options, I'll post back if I think of something else. The main issue is that most of the best brunch places don't take reservations.

Cafe Souvenir, the best way to know is to call, but from my memories of the place, fitting 12 people would fill up almost half the space. Good food.

Grand-mère poule (I tough it was closed on Bernard), never been, but I've been to the regular mère-poule, both on Beaubien and Masson, pretty average breakfast, ok, but you can get better value somewhere else (and terrible coffee! Their latte is weak filtered coffee with lots of milk).
