French Poodle restaurant in Carmel, CA
French Poodle is simply the best authentic French restaurant in the Carmel-Monterey area. We have a time share at Carmel Highlands, and have eaten at French Poodle at least twice a week for the last 15 plus years, and invariably had outstanding food and service. This year, we had the foie gras appetizer twice, both times sublimely cooked with a divine sauce, as well as an excellent artichoke appetizer. For the main course, the duck breast was outstanding as was the salmon. The sauteed fresh abalone was absolutely divine. Not to be missed is their floating island dessert for two - absolutely delightful mouhtfuls of clouds of ambrosia. We always buy two bottles of their vinegairette dressing when we leave the area for the year. The service, provided personally by the owners, Richard and Annamarie, is personal but courteous. The candle-lit atmosphere is intimate and dignified. This restaurant is a hidden gem as we never see it advertized - which is fine for us, but a pity for those who would enjoy a truly authentic French food in California.

Thanks for the heads up on the FP. We were there *many* years ago and it had fallen off my radar. We are usually puttering around the village during the daytime, so I'm disappointed they don't serve lunch. The menu looks outstanding!
In case we do venture out at night, what did you think of the wine list? It isn't on their site.
