Decision -50th birthday- 30 Ppl-
Found four places that will give me private
room, 1 hour cocktail reception with passed
apps and buffet style dinner- with a little
work each place can have some room for
dancing if it happens to break out-
would love opinions from those in the know
in regard to food and ambiance at
1)TriBeCa grill upstairs private room
Laconda verde (amazing food but they
will only serve family style and won't work
with me- I can't see eating in 3 tables of
4) rooftop lounge ( totally open if good
weather, enclosed if not) at Grammercy
event is a Sunday evening 6-10
thanks to all

Not clear whether you are going to have dinner as well, but in any event check out Terrace in the Sky (www.terraceinthesky.com) on the roof of Butler Hall at Columbia. Select "events" from the menu and see if it fills the bill. V good food and one of the best views on the planet. Indoor and/or out.

I know- i love the room! But 3 tables of 10- many of my gu4sts done't know each other and i think it could get awkward- i wanted a buffet space so people could mix and mingle, but the only option for that is an antipasto table and passed canapes, which i just don't think will be filling enough at 6 PM.
I've suggested other alternatives but the event director states these will not work out. Very confused about what do to, as the fiood at LV is unbelieveably good....
You might want to investigate Astra, an event space on the 14th floor of the D&D Bldg. (Third Av. & 58th St.) Charlie Palmer is in charge of the food, and acc. to their website, they do buffetdinners. There is an outdoor balcony with a great view, so if the weather permits, you could do your cocktail hour there. My guess is that they will arrange the tables in a way that suits you, and there is lots of room for a band and dancing.
Note: I have not been to an event at Astra, but during the day, it is a cafe open to the public, and I have eaten there. The food's very good.
