Uncooked celery is limp...

Hi,

I have some leftover celery that I didn't need so I stashed it in the veggie drawer in my fridge. I was going to use some of it in a stew later on this week. The celery seems to have gone a bit limp though. The coloring looks ok, and it doesn't smell rotten, but if it is limp is it starting to go bad?

    Thanks for all the advice!

+1 on the trimming the bottom and putting upright in a bowl of water to revive. Next time, take out of the plastic and wrap in foil before storing. Lasts so much longer. Amazing.

My MIL cuts the stalks down to a size that fits into a rectangular tupperware container, and she says they stay fresh forever that way in the fridge. But limp doesn't necessarily mean bad flavor.

monku's suggestion is similar to mine -- I just put limp celery ribs in a large bowl of cold water and leave it in the fridge for a couple hours. Always does the trick!

Cut an inch or two off the bottoms and stand them up in a container of water in the refrigerator and they'll come back to life most of the time.

It won't taste quite as good as fresh, but for soups/stews it should be fine.
