Dovetail's Contemporary American cuisine is delicious. The regular menu is too pricey for your budget, but their Sunday "Suppa" is a 3-course prix fixe for $38.

I think metfan630 meant Ocean Grill, which is across the street from the museum, not Blue Water Grill.
Telepan is an easy walk from the museum, and either just goes over your limit ($55 for 4 courses) or is under it if you are there Monday-Thursday before the 6:15 deadline, you can have 3 courses for $39.

Whoops-I meant to put this under your second post, RGR...

Thanks, David. I figured metfan meant another fish/seafood spot, but he/she never clarified.
I liked the food at Dovetail much more than Telepan's, but Telepan's understated elegant ambiance definitely beats Dovetail's rather crowded feel.

I would stay away from Ocean Grill- the food is not very good and the service is downright insulting.

Wow, I could not disagree more. I've had dinner there a couple of times but been for brunch dozens of times. The service has ranged from very good to excellent (most times). The maitre d' keeps a close watch and can be seen checking on patron satisfaction at individual tables. The brunch, IMO, is one of the best deals around, and for dinner I think it is also quite good...FYI Isabella's is the same restaurant group and virtually the same menu, I believe..also a fan of Dovetail's Sunday Suppa -- great food and great fun!

Yes, I did mean Ocean Grill, apoligies, I get all those Be Our Guest Restaurants mixed up :)
Still havent been to Telepan. Bit futher away from where OP is asking, but nothing more than a 8-10 min walk, through a great neighborhood as well.

Is Amsterdam at 73rd too far away? If not, I loved Salumeria Rosi

second Dovetail, for the Sunday menu.
Eighty One also has a price fix, two courses for $35. I've eaten at the bar area as well and that was very enjoyable.
Isabella's is good, so is Blue Water Grill, but would go to either Dovetail or Eighty One first.
And, there's always Shake Shack ;-)

Blue Water Grill? It's downtown on Union Square. Have they opened a branch on the UWS?

Oh too bad, I liked that place.
On a side note, I did recently eat lunch at Ed's Chowder House, and it was an enjoyable experience. Would recommend.
