Bachelorette party for 30-somethings, Mexican/Thai/Indian/Italian

twiggles Mar 28, 2010 12:19 PM

Hi all,

I'm trying to plan a bachelorette party for about 10-12 women, all in our early to mid 30s. We are looking for a place that is festive, but not cheesy. Good food is a must. The bride to be likes Mexican, Thai, Indian, and Italian. I was thinking of a place that could do a set menu, about $40-$50 per person. It would be great if this included a drink, but it does not have to. I was thinking of Otto, because I know they do a set menu for around that price and it is a festive place. But I wanted to come up with a few other options. If there is a place that also could give us a private, or semi-private space, that would be even better.

Thank you for the help!!

I am planning a very similar party for my friend at Otto next weekend - I can let you know how it goes. They do make you sign a contract which specifically prohibits you from bringing decorations and making speeches, which I thought was a little weird. But, hopefully, it will be a good time!

I think Otto is a really great choice.

Otherwise, I'd definitely recommend Zarela for Mexican. It's very festive and has delicious Mexican cuisine from Zarela Martinez and amazing margaritas. I'm not totally sure if they will do a set menu, but you can check. I have done many large parties there, but we typically order off the menu since it makes sense there.

For Thai, I recently went to a 12 person birthday dinner at Rohm Thai in Gramercy and it was really great. The food was wonderful and they have live music most nights (I would confirm this though). It's a very chic atmosphere but the food is reasonably priced.

La Esquina Corner Deli - downstairs - for Mexican (if you can get in) or Spice Market for Thai/Asian. Both would be good for that type of event.

          Tabla for Indian
The downstairs private room at El Parador for Mexican

Tabla is a wonderful suggestion. You might also look into Rhong-Tiam/Kurve. Superb Thai food at gentle prices.

does anyone know if the new location of Rhong-Tiam has the same funky atmosphere that Kurve had? that might be a good option. I love Tabla, but i'm not sure if it will end up being too pricey.

Yes, Rhong-Tiam closed its La Guardia Place location and combined with Kurve. The space hasn't changed.

Two suggestions - Fig & Olive Meatpacking for Italian or Dos Caminos for Mex.
