help! looking for quality vietnamese, thai or chinese resto for large family dinner with kids next sat.
Hi fellow chowhounders:
I'm trying to organize a large family dinner (10 adults, 4 kids under age 7) for next saturday night. Ideally I'd like to find a restaurant with a private room, or one that's big enough to allow for some roaming by little kids in the group. Don't think our regular faves (Sichuanese Cuisine, Green Leaf, Szech 99) will do space-wise. Open to Vietnamese, Thai or Chinese. Any thoughts?
Thanks much for your ideas!

Vietnamese friends have taken us to the joy Palace at 6030 MLK South . They have an extensive, mostly Chinese menu and a large room that could accomodate a very large party. The patrons are mostly Asian and I thought the food was quite good.

Monsoon East, in Bellevue, has a private area, and excellent Viet-local-evolved food. I haven't seen kids running amok there but I doubt they'd have an issue with four of them. It seems the better Cantonese style places with banquet tables would work, e.g. Jade Garden, Harbor City, Sea Garden.

Bamboo Garden in Bellevue (the Szechuan place, not the awful vegan place by the Seattle Center) has large tables in a semi-segregated area. It is always packed with large families and kids are always running around back there. You would have to ask if they accomodate a party of your size (I think the tables seat 10, but maybe they have a strategy for larger groups).

I would second Bamboo Garden in Bellevue. I have seen them handle large groups on more than one occassion---they stick you either in the two big tables in the back or off to the side. And no one ever cares that kids are running around.
giggle re the "awful vegan place by the Seattle Center" oh I so agree. We tried it once and were soo soo soo disappointed. All we could think was "we could have gone to the REAL Bamboo Gardens!!!"

I believe House of Hong can accommodate a group this size. Plus they're sure to have something for everyone. Ask for some shrimp chips for the kids - ours used to love them so much we used to carry a piece of paper with kanji for "shrimp chips" so we would be sure to order the right thing!
