Oysters in the OC?

Where can I eat copious amounts of oysters in the OC without taking out a small loan? I grew up with .25 oysters in FL so I get some wicked sticker shock when I see them for $15-20/6 at some restaurants around town. They don't have to be "the best," but they need to be fresh and reasonably priced so that I can have a couple dozen with a few beers. Thanks!!

I second Kings Fish House, with a wide selection of different types of oysters, very fresh, very tasty, opened as you watch at the oyster bar, with vinegary sauce and red cocktail sauce with freshly grated horseradish plus wonderful sourdough bread like that served in San Francisco. Kings is at El Toro right by the #5 for those who don't know. Pop in for half a dozen to a dozen; then get Wellfleets, I believe, in three shot glasses as a sort of after thought, for about $6 as "shooters". They serve very good oysters at Kings and, though not cheap, I believe are reasonably priced. They also have fresh oysters on the pier in San Clemente, but they can be variable and they all seem to come from Baja, and they don't have the selection that King's does. Kings also has a very wide selection of tap and bottled beers.

Fresh oysters don’t usually come at bargain prices in OC. My suggestion is to head a wee bit north to East Whittier and check out the Seafare Inn. Delicious, fresh (Malpeque?), shucked to order for $12.95/dozen. These are not the ones you typically find pre-shucked and left out at an AYCE brunch or seafood buffet.

Grab a solid lump crab (no filler) sandwich on rye for $9.50 and you’ve got yourself an incredible lunch deal. My favorite combo when I’m not in the mood for their awesome fried jumbo shrimp.

Recently, I sat up there and chowed down three-dozen oysters. The last time I had done that was years ago in New Orleans.

I haven't eaten oysters at too many places, but Taps in Brea has a Sunday brunch for about $35. All you can eat oysters included, I thought they were fresh, but again I'm not an expert. I think the brunch includes unlimited mimosas or a beer or 2.

Little further south than OC, check out the seafood buffet at Valley View Casino near Escondido.
Every night 4pm they have an AYCE seafood buffet with oysters, Maine lobster, Alaskan king crab legs, prime rib etc... Bring a plate of the king crab legs to the Asian section and the guy will stir fry it with a sweet chili sauce.

All for $27. Sign up for a players club card and you get a free lunch or dinner seafood buffet.

I love Taps...if not there for Sunday brunch, I believe they are still a good deal. Fresh and well shucked.

If you go with a group, the $100 gift cards you can buy at Costco for $80 is a great deal....
