Jamaica Plain suggestions?

I'm trying to plan a dinner for 8 (40th birthday, all adults/no kids) in Jaimaica Plain (next Saturday). We are up for anything (except sushi) but I am not familiar with JP-- any favorites/suggestions? Also, it would be great if the restaurant allowed us to bring in our own dessert (birthday cake), but not a deal breaker. Thanks!

What about Ten Tables? I'm not sure on whether you could bring in a dessert but they are usually fairly accomodating on most things. Reservations are a must though.

Will Ten Tables accommodate a party of 8? I can't picture that.

Vee Vee is small as well but pretty terrific, definitely the second best restaurant in the neighborhood IMHO.

While I'm a fan of Vee Vee, in my opinion I would rate Bon Savor as either as the first or second best restaurant, right up there with Ten Tables.

It is also on the small side, but with a reservation I can see them handling this party.

Oooh, I haven't been to Bon Savor since they switched chefs. Thanks for the reminder.

I believe that Ten Tables has expanded at its location? I'm not 100% on that but I think they are seating more than, well, ten tables :-)

They've added a "bar side," but that just means a small bar and a pretty limited number of high tops. I don't believe they have the space on that side to handle a party of eight (unless they take all the bar seats...).

I'm eating at Ten Tables this Saturday - we'll be six, and the earliest they seat a party of 6+is 8:45 pm (even though we made the reservation six weeks ago). I'd try VeeVee -

Check out Bella Luna in the Brewery / Armory space. I haven't been since the relocation but know they have been very accommodating to special requests (birthday cakes) in the past.

          Try Dogwood Cafe: http://www.dogwoodcafe.com/

I use to be a big fan of the Dogwood. The last 2 times I went, I was very disappointed. One of the times the steak tips were really tough and the other time was for brunch and it was served luke warm. It's taste wasn't up to speed either.
