Is pork belly just slab bacon?

Forgive me if this has been discussed as I couldn't find the thread. Is pork belly just slab bacon before it is smoked/cured. I really would like to try making it at home.

  1. Yep. But pork belly usually still has the skin on, whereas slab bacon doesn't.
