Authentic Empanadas?

I am a latin food lover and have not quite found that PERFECT empanada in Manhattan...I've had delicious empanadas at Buenos Aires Restaurant in the EV and pretty good gourmet empanadas at A Casa Fox in the LES - however I am looking for Authentic delicious meat and egg and olive filled goodness...not something fancy. Willing to travel to Brooklyn if that's where it's at...but prefer somewhere a little closer to home!

Thanks friends!

  1. I haven't found authentic empanadas in Manhattan - have you tried Mama's or Papa's empanadas in Queens? They make some darn tasty empanadas.

    1. Empanada Mama is my go-to

      1. Empanadas are consumed in multiple countries on several continents, so what's authentic to a Puerto Rican would be nouvelle to a Galician. For egg and olive fillings, I think Chileans make a good, savory variety, meaning Barros Luco would be a good stop for you. Argentines also make egg and olive empanadas, but you may need to do a search of the Outer Boroughs boards to find recommendations for bakeries in Jackson Heights.
