Red O open?

L-A Magazine suggests that Rick Bayless' new restaurant is open. Is that true? Anyone tried it?

I believe it opens on May 26, but I hear the reservation line opened today (I haven't tried it myself though). It's a very pretty restaurant!

It was supposed to open in April

On Twitter, Rick Bayless has repeatedly stated he is only a consultant on the food. I don't think it is his although I wish he would open one of his great restaurants here.

Instead we are left with that abomination, Rosa Mexicano.

There are many alternatives to Topo and Frontera that are not Rosa Mexicano here in LA.

I would disagree.

We have great authentic Mexican food ... and Mexican street food. I have eaten at Serenata for many, many years but it is not the same. The only thing that comes close to it is La Casita Mexicana.

I've travelled with Diana Kennedy and Rick Bayless for years around Mexico ... especially Diana who I've traveled though many states. I know Mexico and its food reasonably well.

I know Monte Alban, Chitzen Itza, El Texate and others. Yxta was a total dismal bust!

What am I missing?

Have you tried Rivera in downtown?

I saw Rick Bayless at the Beverly Hills farmers market 2 sundays ago, the weekend of the LA marathon. He was walking around with what looked like 4 or 5 chefs, who I assume were from the Red O. I hope its in the same class as Topolobampo.

That is up there on the list of worst restaurant websites. I wouldn't have even known about the press release once the flash images covered it up.

According to Thrillist LA, They are taking reservations starting tomorrow, Tuesday 5/18, and opening shortly thereafter. (?)

Has anyone been able to make a reservation? I just tried calling and got a recording...saying they were opening May 26th and accepting reservations, but not to leave a message. I couldn't get a live person on the line.
