long beach washington service???

bigbarb Mar 27, 2010 12:02 AM

Why is it that the service on the Longbeach Peninsula is so bad? The local people seem so disingenuous towards outsiders? It is too bad. I have been going there for over 10 years for work and clam tides but am always amazed that the locals are so unfriendly. There are towns on the Oregon coast (Newport for example) who rave about how friendly they are. I would think that for a touristy area in the crappy economy that we are enduring, that the folks would be nicer, but year in and year out the people on the Long Beach Peninsula are a grumpy bunch. I would rather stay in Astoria.... Is this the standard or is it only my myopic experience?

Where are you talking about specifically? We go to Seaview quite often and Ilwaco to the restaurants there and eveyone was friendy to us. I'm glad you like Astoria, we have had a second home there for over twenty years, love that little place! :)

I agree with syragirl. I can't think of a time that the service has been unfriendly. Laid back, maybe, but not rude. Astoria is a whole other experience, more city than country.

That really surprises me, bigbarb. I've always thought of the Long Beach Peninsula as the friendlies beach on the coast. What has happened to you that makes you think otherwise?

We haven't been there in three years but went there the prior 12 years every summer. I don't remember ever having had rude or unfriendly service. I miss that bakery on the main drag, yum. They weren't exactly the most friendly people but it was always packed and busy. The pastries there were very good.

It might be your own myopic experience.

My friend went to the Depot over Memorial Day. She recommended it and said the service was good. Their crowd was large and easily cared for. I am heading that way next week on a road trip. I intend to stop for dinner and of course to the bakery. YUM. I will report back hat in hand if I encounter snotties.

Depot is very good with very attentive, friendly service, let us know how you like it, they have really good Oysters there, fresh out of Willapa Bay! :)

I got a bit delayed by weather. We are heading that way next week and I will be sure to report back.

We are going on an oyster frenzy trip. Oink.

We will be on the Peninsula June 18-21. We have our favorite standybys, but have any new restaurants opened since last summer that we should take notice of? We will surely be eating at 42nd St Cafe, The Depot, Jimella's.
