Small After Wedding Dinner Party - Need Suggestions

My best friend is getting married at Chapel Dulcinea on Friday, May 21st. Very small ceremony and we are looking for a place to have dinner together afterward (expect party of 10-15), probably around 9:00 pm. We have recently found out that this is also the weekend of UT graduation, so we fully expect all of the downtown places to be extremely crowded. I am looking for suggestions in the mid-range price level that could easily accommodate a group that size (all age groups including newborn) that might be close to the chapel. The only food requirements are no Italian, no BBQ and no sushi. We are looking for something unique to Austin if possible. I am very unfamiliar with the area where the chapel is located as most of my visits to Austin center around the So/Co Downtown area. Any help is much appreciated.

And while you are making suggestions, I will also be in town in a couple of weeks for the Lone Star Round-Up car show. If there are any new cool places we should check out for food or especially drinks - I would love to hear about those too. We are more of beer drinking, hanging out, listening to music type crowd - nothing we can't wear jeans and a T-shirt to for this trip. We will be staying at the Austin Motel so anything along that vibe, would be cool.

Thanks in advance!

  1. Chapel Dulcinea is kind of in the middle of nowhere, when you're talking dining options. The closest restaurant to Chapel Dulcinea is the Salt Lick BBQ, which is not one of your food choices. The next closest would be the Nutty Brown Cafe...its very casual. If you aren't looking for white linen tablecloths, it's an option. I'd also check with Jack Allen's in Oak Hill (very nice, outstanding food, varied menu). Other than those spots, you may need to venture farther into Austin proper.

When you're in town for the Round-Up you have to do a tour of some of the new food trailers. East Side Kings in the back courtyard of Liberty Bar (E. 6th) is serving up some incredibly tasty offerings, as is Odd Duck Farm to Trailer on S. Lamar just south of Barton Springs. Vespaio on S. Congress (no one except the realtors & PR people call it "SoCo") is my favorite place to get dessert (or anything). In downtown, if you've never had a burger from Casino El Camino, take your opportunity & go.
