Debone fish before grinding?

kosherblog Mar 26, 2010 01:25 PM

The carp and whitefish fillets I got for this year's gefilte fish don't have the pin bones removed.

I'll be grinding in a hand-cranked meat grinder, so I'm curious-- do I need to bone the fish? Will the grinder's cutting plates catch the pin bones for me?

Thanks for your help!

The grinding plate will NOT catch the bones, they also might break the small bones into smaller so please take the bones out.

    Chag Sameach everyone

Yup. the answer is heck, yes and heck no.

Use a pair of tweezers and save your seder from disaster.

      Good luck, p.j.
