Breakfast near Newton Wellesley Hosp?

mabelm4050 Mar 26, 2010 07:24 AM

I need some recommendations for a breakfast place near NWH. Don't want to go to Johnny's in Newton Center; Baker's Best seems a little too expensive for breakfast. Any other ideas? Thanks!

If you follow Route 16 into Wellelsy Hills, in the block past Whole Foods, on the left, is Maugus Restaurant. A breakfast institution for more than 35 years. It is a storefront, diner style place.
No more than 10 minutes from NW Hospital. Also, easy to find and no chance of getting lost.

Thank you so much! This sounds great. Will there be a crazy long wait on a Saturday morning?

Sometimes a wait, other times not. Usually the turnover is not too long. Pick up some great bakery items at Quebrada- next to Whole Foods- on your way back to the hospital. Great scones, croissant, muffins (especially the poppy cream).

Second this! Great diner and is run by a Greek family. Not breakfast, but they make a cheeseburger club that just hits the right spot! Get the veggies instead of the fires as they are frozen.

Cabots. One of the best belgian waffles around. NWH is on Washington Street. If you take a right out of the driveway, continue on Washington Street and through West Newton and cross the intersection with Walnut Street. It's just on the left there. Cash only but there's an ATM in the lobby.

Cabot's does have great Belgian waffles but take note of the hours. They open much later than any breakfast place I've ever been to ... in this time zone. Something like 9:00 AM

Another good option that's just a little farther away is Gourmet Decisions in downtown Natick. From NWH, you would go left on 16W to 135; continue west on 135 until you get to downtown Natick. It's a bit tucked away. They have great breakfasts.

Barry's in Waban is also near by.

I would second on either Maugus or Cabot's. Also, just over the Wellesley line in Natick on 135 is the Central Street Grill which is quite good with friendly service.

Thanks everyone! We went to Maugus, and while I wasn't blown away, I did like the restaurant, our waitress, the atmosphere. I would definitely try it again, maybe for lunch next time.

For lunch, I would recommend CK Shanghai in Newton Lower Falls (on the way to Maugus). I love them because the veggies are crisp without being drowned in sauce--this is my favorite go to place in the area. http://www.ckshanghai.com/about.html
