HOW DO I GET THE SWEET SMELL OUT OF MY STAINLESS STEEL POT?

Hi! I made creme caramel about a month ago in my stainless steel pot. I didn't burn it, I cleaned it out immediately and yet, everything I've cooked in that pot ever since has a syrupy sweet hint of flavour. Not exactly what I want in my spaghetti. Does anyone have any suggestions how to get the pot to smell neutral again and not like sweetness? I've boiled salt-water in the pot as well and still nada. Help, please! I don't want to have to buy another pot!

Thanks!

The tomato acid in tomato sauce should neutralize it for you, and if that doesn't work, a pot full of anything curried should certainly do the trick. IIRC leaving the pot out in the rain worked for someone and I'm not sure why. She added baking soda to the water and it was fine.

Combine both of the above suggestions: scrub with a mixture of baking soda and white vinegar. Should do the trick.

Helpfull hint...I keep a separate SS pan for making custards, pastry creams, etc., just so this doesn't happen. Actually, I started doing it for the opposite reason...after making a batch of candy that had a faint garlic aroma to it! lol

Huh! My only thought is to give it a good scrub with baking soda, rinse it really well, and then simmer some vinegar and water in it. Hope it works! :)
