Pho Mai Vietnamese [Middletown, Ct]

  • 7

Just had lunch at Pho Mai in Middletown. Definitely a " No Frills" Dining Room.
Place ws busy and service was good and friendly.
I had the Pho with rare beef and it was excellent.
Had the additional benefit of coming in either "large" or "medium". The latter size was very adequate for lunch.
They have a fairly comprehensive Vietnamese menu and I will return to try other dishes.

  1. I usually can get 2 lunches out of an order. Also like the Bún gà nuong (chicken on noodles with a "peanut and sweet sauce) and com gà huong (chicken w/curry, "5 spicy sauces" w/rice). Always fresh, bright, and tasty

    1. Can you advise as to whether they serve Banh Mi of any variation? I'm in Fairfield County and most of the sandwiches around here are shipped in from NY, but frankly aint that great. I would be willing to head up there for one of those yummy delish sangwiches...mouth is watering already. Look forward to finding out!

You can see their take out menu at
        http://www.urbanspoon.com/r/48/134664...
It lists several Banh Xeo and Mi variations but not Banh Mi.

Pho Mai definitely does NOT serve banh mi, but have a look at this thread for recommendations...some far closer to you:

Kien in Hartford is still on my list. Let us know if you get there--or anywhere good!

            Thanks guys.

In Bridgeport, I know of a few places, some listed in links; HOWEVER, once you've had the real deal in NYC's Chinatown, it's SO tough to even compare. So far, the best I've had in Fairfield County is a place call Pho Saigon located on 80 Wood Ave. Only been once for a banh mi, but would love to go back and try the Pho.

Luckily my in-laws live up in the Hartford area. Great excuse to sneak out and get a banh mi at Kien.

            Thanks again.

          1. In the interest of full disclosure - I just had my first mediocre experience at Pho Mai. Last night I stopped by Pho Mai for dinner while traveling down Route 9 on my way home. I ordered the crepe and it consisted of a couple tablespoons of bean sprout and a few small pieces of chicken. Nothing exciting about dinner so I expect that I will stick with pho on my next visit.

            1. Pho Mai is still on vacation :( and my coworkers and I are desperately awaiting for their return. We've went to pho Boston a few weeks ago, their pho caused us all to run for the bathroom, DEFINITELY TOO OILY. we really miss pho mai.
