Lunch in Midtown Atlanta on Saturday

  • 5

My friend and I will be staying at the Hotel Palomar on W. Peachtree this Saturday. We already have a dinner res at Restaurant Eugene but I am looking for a place to have a nice, light lunch with a bottle of wine in the midtown area. We will have a car, so the Howell Mill area would be fine as well. Don't want anything heavy like a burger and outside dining sounds like it could work, judging from the weather reports. Any quick suggestions for us? We really liked Social Resto a few months back but I believe they are closed for lunch on Saturdays, as are many restaurants in town.

  1. A very short drive from your hotel you'll find these choices in the same parking lot:

thanks for the reply. I called JCT and made a reservation there as the menu sounds very interesting. I have visited Star Provisions several times to take things home but do they have a place to sit down to eat? I am definitely going to get a few goodies to go while over there! I recall the focaccia bread was amazing. Don't know anything about Figo.

There are a few tables inside and out at Star Provisions, and the weather is going to be nice.
There is outside seating at JCT too.
Figo is a chain, but it's pretty good food.

My friend's daughter is curious about Ibiza. Anything on that one?

    2. So pleasantly surprised at the wonderful lunch here! We started with an appetizer of deviled eggs and country ham- four egg halves topped with shaved slices of ham that made the perfect finger food. Then went on to the roasted winter squash soup which was swirled with creme fraiche and balsamic- very nice depth of flavors. Our entree was a shared fried chicken salad, split in the kitchen. Both plates had a perfectly cooked boneless chicken breast on the bottom, topped with romaine, chopped radicchio, sliced granny smith apples, chopped almonds, and chives. All of the salad ingedients had been lightly tossed in the buttermilk dressing before being placed atop the chicken. It was perfect.
Of course since everything up to that point had been so good we had to see the dessert menu. We ordered a piece of rum-soaked coconut cake (a large square piece) topped with fresh whipped cream and toasted coconut. As if that weren't enough, we also ordered the freshly-made doughnuts filled with Meyer lemon curd and dusted with confectioner's sugar. This was served in a coffee mug along with a scoop of homemade mocha ice cream.
We actually had reservations at Restaurant Eugene for that evening but were so satisfied and full after this lunch that we cancelled. We will get there next time!
Can't wait to go back to Jct Kitchen and explore more of their menu. It's also fun to stand on the bridge which connects with the White Provisions building and watch the trains go by. As a native Atlantan, I am so pleased to see this area being revitalized and these old buildings getting a new life.
