Edmonton - Where can I find a good bottle of sake?

I have seen a few kinds of sake at Sherwood Liquor but most places barely carry anything other than gekkeikan. Does anyone know of a liquor store that might have a good selection of sake? I've checked the old Chowhound message boards and google...but no luck :(

  1. Check the Liquor Depot (I am not sure if it was a depot or barn...) in Oliver Square. I don't frequent it but I was in there some time last year and was surprised by the selection they have in stock. Good luck.

I would suggest giving some of the better wine stores a call.

Try asking Ed at deVines on 104th Street downtown or David up at I think it is Vines in Riverbend or Liquor Select on 149th Street...the latter used to be very good when they were supplying Eastbound but it since has closed and I do not think their sake selection is as good as it used to be.

However, I have not gone "shopping" for sake recently and probably would not be able to distinguish a good sake from a mediocre one although it has been too long since I have had a bottle of Pearl Sake from Momokawa...mind you it is from Oregon so what do I know? [smile]

    2. Don't know anything about sake but check on
At least you can see what brands are available (more or less) and then you can see if it might be carried in a liquor store near you.

      1. Check out Vinomania on Jasper Avenue. They usually have a pretty good selection of things that the average store doesn't carry.

Yes, Culinary Crusader is correct, the owner Gurvinder knows his wine ... especially Italian which is the store specialty but I do not recollect what their sake selection looks like but admittedly, it has been a matter of months since i was last in.

        2. there is a liquor store next to lucky 97 on 97 and 111 ave they have the largest amount of sake i have found in town with about 15-20 different types.... not all are good . i recomendsho sho chiku bai premium ginjo sake.
