ISO POMI chopped tomatoes (GTA)

lilaki Mar 25, 2010 10:13 AM

hi hounds,

i'm in desperate search of POMI chopped tomatoes. i used to find them regularly stocked at longos. in the last few months, i've only seen the strained boxes. i spoke with the manager at the longos i go to and he said he's had them on order for weeks but only the strained boxes show up. i've gone to two different fortinos and have had no luck. i've had friends in woodbridge and hamilton looking and they too can only find the strained boxes.

i believe parmalat used to own the POMI brand ... i called parmalat canada and they were of no use and a google search seems to indicate that POMI is now carried by a company in the US called POMI USA. i've also called this US office and they were unable to tell me about canadian distribution.

FWIW, pomi tomatoes come in boxes/cartons and are normally stocked with the canned/jarred tomatoes. they're about $2.29 for a box.

here's a visual: www.pennmac.com/page/29

at this point, i'll drive anywhere in the GTA to pick up some boxes. has anyone seen POMI chopped tomatoes?

I bought them a couple of weeks ago at the Metro near me (Markham and Eglinton). They had both types on the shelves.

Highland Farms has both types, side by side.

Bennett Rd.,at Lawrence, east of Morningside.
This is the smallest HF, but closer to me. The big ones should be better stocked, so they may have both types of Pomi.

longos on ponytrail FINALLY got a few cases in on thursday. i was talking to the guy stocking the shelves and he said there was a huge delay in the shipment. the rep from pomi personally drove the cases over to longos in time for the weekend!

          thanks all!!!

I just bought boxes of the chopped at the Superstore at Dufferin and Steeles about 10 days ago. Haven't been back, so don't know if they have any more, but there definitely were some recently! Glad you found them, just thought I'd mention another place to check if you need to know in the future.

I just saw some at Real Canadian Super Store at Weston and 401. There were only a few boxes of the chopped tomatoes but a ton of the strained tomotoes.
