Birthday Dinner- where should I go? Fish or vegetarian only.
My birthday is coming up and i want to go to dinner somewhere i haven't been before. I'm thinking the Santa Monica area only b/c i've only been to Jiraffe and Anisette and i know there are lovely restaurants there like Michaels, Wilshire, etc etc. I'll be coming from miracle mile area... i've already been to AOC, Little Door, Ortolan, Jar, Grace, Hatfields in the old spot- and i am considering the new spot for the bday dinner, Eva, Church and State, Bashan, Providence, Watergrill, Madeo, Drago Centro to give you an idea of what I like but what i don't want to return to b/c i'd like to go somewhere new. We eat Fish, but we don't eat any other meat. Suggestions are welcomed. Thank you.

I would definitely suggest Wilshire. Currently on the menu are Kumamoto oysters, Hamachi, Red Curry Coconut Mussels, Thai Style Shrimp Soup, Soft Shells, Miso Black Cod, Whole fried Thai Snapper, Seared Diver Scallops, Grilled rainbow trout plus their vegetables are the best - all sourced from the farmer's market. In addition there are 11 vegetable sides plus 3 salads.

Melisse has wonderful vegetarian and fish items. They have a vegetarian tasting menu, and allow a lot of mixing and matching across tasting menus, so you could probably do two courses vegetarian and one with fish. They also do amazing dishes with truffles for significantly extra (though you get a lot of truffle). The truffle egg is my favorite dish.
