Cam's Place - Skip It.
With the departure of the Dizzy from the Yonge/Eglinton neighbourhood, finding a good pub meal close by has been a challenge. Yes, there are pub-in-a-box options as close as across the street, but we tend to enjoy something above what is generic from time to time. And so last night we decided to give Cam's Place a try. It looks relatively the same as Mad Monty's did, aside from a refinished floor, new booths and a change of art on the wall.
Our server brought us menus, and I ordered a Keith's (AB-InBev/Labatt offerings rule the taps at Cam's) to start. My Keith's was more like a Cool/Blue, bright yellow and malty and I should have stopped there. I ordered their grilled cheese sandwich with a side of poutine. My boyfriend ordered the wing special, a pound of hot for $7. And then we waited quite some time for our food while watching the sole waiter circulate the restaurant, struggling to keep up with his tables.
Our food arrived and the wings were tiny with 2/3 of them having broken bones. They were sauced nicely and the dip that accompanied his meal was quite tasty. My grilled cheese was quite good, on marbled rye with tomato and plenty of gooey cheese however the poutine was disgusting. If anything, it shouldn't have been called as such as it certainly didn't fit the recipe. Potato skins with melted cheese and a tablespoon greasy gravy? Yech. My plate looked like an oil slick covered in kitchen scraps.
I finished my sandwich and for some reason, I ordered a Stella hoping I'd get the real deal. Nope. I got the same bright yellow malt beverage as was my Keith's and that was quite enough for me.
$50 for two mediocre meals, drinks included. Seriously, don't bother.

Living right around the corner from Cam's place I had high hopes for this little spot when it opened. As far as pub fares goes the food has always been the highlight but the service has usually been abysmal. Most often the root cause is one lone waitress who seems more content to stand behind the bar socializing than working. The only thing that truly disappoints me about this place is that it should be my local pub but never makes me feel welcome. At least the food is worth a visit.
Sorry to hear you had such a bad experience at Cam's last night. I've been there several times and have enjoyed my meals, especially the veg quesedillas. My SO went there last night for Wing Night (he looooves their wings), and said it was the busiest he had ever seen it. He also said that one of the usual cooks (probably the owner) was the person serving the tables--the regular server may have called in sick or something. He did say it was pretty chaotic in there. Normally, the service is very attentive.
Not sure what went wrong with your beers. I've never had that problem there.
