Staying at the Renaissance Marriott this weekend, looking for ideas for dinner Friday night, and lunch/dinner Saturday. Seafood, Italian will work.
Thanks

  1. As for Italian you gave two good options downtown. Old School Institution or New Kid on the Block.

    Roma's Cafe - www.romacafe.com

    Angelina's Bistro - www.angelinadetroit.com

I can not say I am enthralled with any Seafood downtown, I may be a minority in this opinion but that is mine. Well I would get Seafood at Roma's or Angelina's.

I would mention Roast as a non Italian/Seafood option though. www.roastdetroit.com/

Roast is owned by Iron Chef Micheal Symon and they are the best place in town to eat if you are a carnivore. Tough to get a seat unless you get there around 4pm and aim for the bar.

Awesome, thanks for your advice. I am traveling solo, Roast I am assuming is at the MGM?

Roast is not....It would be in walking distance of your Hotel but not a short walk.

While not a completely unsafe walk, I might recommend a taxi if your not from the area.

Roast would be a nice easy walk from the RenCen. Maybe 15 minutes at worst. There is actually nothing to fear in Downtown and the people in the City of Detroit are very helpful.

Sorry, I should have finished that sentence like this... "While not a completely unsafe walk, it is easy to get lost if you don't understand the streets downtown."

I hate to sound like a Detroit basher. I love the city.

    2. My wife really like to dine at Coach Insignia ... top floor, revolving restaurant @ RenCen:

I have only been up there for apps and drinks, but it is a nice experience. The view from up there is great. I do not believe that it still rotates though.

      2. Ok, although I am rather late .... if you come to Detroit again I would try Vicentes. They are on Library street just a few blocks from the Marriot. Good Cuban food and live salsa on the week ends.
