mkad,
When I saw your header, I didn't click on your post because we have not been to Convivio in more than a year. Since the current menu is entirely different from the one we had, I can't offer any advice.
Our good friend, steakrules85, had dinner at Convivio recently. You might want to read his excellent detailed review: http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/689412

re: RGR
Thanks for the props RGR. I was just about to post the link but I see you have already. For those who do not have the time to read it I will sum it up in a few sentences.
Had a stellar meal there and I thought it was quite the bargain. 4 courses for $62 in a nice setting with great service. Every dish I had was great and I would highly recommend the duck, pecorino potatoes (addicting, possibly the best potatoes I have had), affogato. The other dishes I had were the quail and malloreddus which were also expertly prepared but a notch below the afformentioned dishes.

re: steakrules85
Just got back from Convivio tonight and feel the same way as steak... High quality meal at a very reasonable price. For pastas, we had the Malloreddus (sardinian saffron gnocchetti, crab, sea urchin) and Caramelle (braised oxtail filled ravioli, escarole, pecorino) both of which were incredible. the Caramelle was really next level though, some really good stuff right there. Also, had the steak and the lamb chops which i thought both could have been better. Next time i'm doing a fish and the duck.

I wasn't crazy about the place, and you can probably find much better and cheaper Italian fare in the city.
That said, things that were nice were the salami (part of the sfizi menu), the quail was a-ok, and the fusilli. Everything else was pretty much a massive disappointment.
