Raleigh, Durham, Cary, Chapel Hill Dinner suggestions

I'm looking for restaurant suggestions for dinner in the RTP area. Ideally I'd like the place to have locally grown options, interesting atmosphere, good wine selection and staff that make you smile. I'll be driving here from 3 hours away so want to make it worth my while!

Four Square in Durham immediately comes to my mind. Is it worth the 3 hour drive? I'm not one to say, but they are known for great cuisine (sourced locally) and the set up is an old house that is "Neoclassical Revival style of Victorian architecture".

The Lantern in Chapel Hill might be a nice choice. Asian accented food, and the chef has just been short listed for a James Beard award. The service has always been great, the wine selection pretty good (obviously biased toward asian flavors).

Here is the website if you'd like to check out the menu: http://lanternrestaurant.com/

Pancuito in Hillsborough springs to mind. A real "locally" oriented restaurant. Not as sure about the breadth of the wine list there, but adequate. Very nice service and interesting atmosphere.

Jujube in Chapel Hill has quite a good wine selection, with some real winners in there. It's pretty much hand-picked by the owner, and I happen to agree with a lot of his decisions on wine. The staff will certainly make you smile. Another asian fusion joint. Pork dishes here tend to be particularly good.

Bonne Soiree. Arguably the creme de la creme of restaurants around here lately. Call ahead and make sure the wine list is up (while you're making your reservation), and while you have Ms. Vaughn on the phone, ask about what is currently local on the menu.

I've eaten at nearly every place recommended (except Pancuito), youi wouldn't have a bad meal at any of the places listed so far. I'd also recommend Poole's Diner in Raleigh.

We have eaten at almost all of the restaurants suggested, and we think that Cypress on the Hill is the best. However, if you should like sweetbreads or liver with onions (both of which you will almost never find at any other Triangle restaurant), try Vin Rouge. Other items on the menu are very good.
