ISO: delicious Saturday lunch, close to I-5, no ridiculously long wait?
Hello PDX Chowers - A question I haven't found an obvious answer to after doing some searching here.
I'll be driving through Portland via I-5 around lunchtime on Saturday and am looking for a great spot (open to any food type, but particularly interested in things unique to Portland, and I have a special fondness for Asian cuisines) that won't involve a long wait.
stopped at the mississippi market - for travelers it is an easy stop off I-5, just a couple minutes off the freeway and parking was easy. we had a sandwich from the big egg (brioche bread, egg, sharp cheddar, black forest ham, chutney - delicious), and a bowl from native bowl that had jasmine rice, grilled tofu, spinach, bean sprouts, and a spice sauce that tasted like it had korean bean paste as a base (with a creamy sesame sauce drizzled on top). we arrived around 1, waited about 10 minutes for our food but found a lovely table in the sun - all was fabulous!
Bunk Sandwiches is actually quite convenient to I5, but it might involve waiting in line. I totally think it would be worth it, but you would have to make that call. Otherwise maybe the food carts at Mississippi Marketplace are pretty convenient, and you could get something from the Big Egg or Garden State, or really, whatever you want, as long as you get dessert from the Sugar Cube. The downtown food carts would also be good, but parking is going to be more difficult for those.
