Has anyone tried it?
For some reason, the search function on Chowhound isn't working so I wasn't able to look at past posts. That being said, I spend alot of time on the board and can't remember more than a sporadic passing comment about the place.
From Yelp, it seems like the food is generally tasty, but the service can be a mess. Is that off-base?
Thanks in advance for your replies!

I'd say that inaccurate if you know what you're getting into before you go. There's no table service and it's community seating.
When you arrive you walk to the back of the restaurant and place your order & pay at the counter. They give you a number and you grab a table. You get your own utensils, napkins and water. Your food will arrive as it's ready.
It can be a little loud, but I find that going at more "off peak" times is better. Late lunch, early dinner have been best, in my experience.
My faves are the lamb & brandy dumplings. I think they're perfect the BF thinks they're too "brandy-y". As if? I also love the phat rice...it's all of their fried rices combined -- pineapple, pork belly and two short ribs on top. Fab! The ramen is delish and I really like the wrinkle beans and the eggplant too.
It generally runs about $35 for two for dinner. It's not cheap, but it's great quality. It's BYOB, too.
(And BTW, Belly Shack is great, too!)
I have been to Urban Belly twice and both times had a great experience. The food was delicious, service was good. I'm not crazy about the tables, they are big and I felt like I was far away from my dining companions but I would definitely go back again. I'm interested to try their other restaurant Belly Shack but haven't been yet.
