    1. Cacao is open until 3AM but it is a nasty smokey tiny little place that is loud and not at all conducive to writing.

The Coffee Bean (I know it's a chain, but it's not starbucks) on Sepulveda/Palms is open until midnight, it's cozy, quiet, warm and you can sit outside if you like. there's almost always a table available, wifi is free, with an annoying login. It's near a TJs and CVS so there is ample parking available. I searched for late night coffee spots on the westside and this seemed to be the best one. if only it were open until 1 or 2 when I actually become productive.

Across the street from the coffee Bean, Yoku Yoku has better than average froyo (I've had excellent pistachio from them before) and the teensy Ugly Roll Sushi Bar has extremely cheap sushi with good quality fish (better than todai and even some fancier sushi places I've been to, definitely better than Kabuki). The oaxacan restaurant next door makes for a pretty decent meal too. None of this is really chow worthy make-a-trip food but it's nice to have options available less than a block away if you're planning on spending an evening in a writing session.

I'll have to try UnUrban, probably too loud for me.

i ended up going to Urth yesterday, which was lovely. a back patio, nice decor, great for a getting-to-know-you date. a lil more upscale then i was thinking, and no wifi.

we also checked out UnUrban, which appeared to be full of circus wannabes, third-world posers, and people who have been playing GO for decades. Too loud, small, and there was some kind of live performance in back.

        i will try Coffee Bean

3d world posers and circus wannabes at UnUrban? Funny! Well, it has been a while (clearly, a LONG while!) since I've gone there ... who knew?

The Novel was an old school coffee house whose orignal location was on Pier near the Santa Monica/Venice border (now closed) but it has several new locations that I haven't been to so I can't vouch for the, uh, clientle ;-) or the hours...

And that is why most folks show up around 2PM drunk and hungry. :) La Cabana was my go-to after many a night on Main Street. As long as I found Rose Avenue, the rest was easy. I don't miss those days at all...
