Meritage this weekend

Going to Meritage this weekend for Wifey's Birthday. Any recommendations? Wifey is already drooling at the foie gras and scallop frites

  1. I think you could order most anything and be happy, but whatever you do - save room for the pineapple upside down cake for dessert (see my other post). Trust me on this one. You won't regret it. :)

    1. if it is a cold MSP night jfood would recommend the cassoulet. great dish for to warm you up fromthe inside out

      1. Meritage is at the top of my list of places to try. I'm a vegetarian, and I realize I'm a pain in the butt, but I emailed the Meritage and Russell informed me that I could be accommodated with the Recession Sunday or even their Tasting Menu's. I'll probably go on a Sunday to check it out, but was thinking of taking my mom there for her birthday for a tasting menu.

        1. I second the pineapple upside down cake. I also really liked the scallops with pork belly - it was a really nice combination of flavors.

i agree that you really can't go wrong with their menu. some of my favorite dishes of the past month or so: cassoulet, coq au vin, the pork belly with lentils and brussel sprouts. i'm also a huge fan of the bloody mary shooter and [protein] strudel, from the amuses.

              Here are my favorites;

              Moules frites
Beef short rib - Saturday night special

I'm not sure if you already made reservations or not. If not, you might want to do that asap. I made a reservation for this weekend and my choices were 5:45pm or 7:45pm.

                    Overall, good not great.

                    The Great

The Rabbit amuse was phenomenal and may have been the best thing all nigiht. French Onion soup was top notch as well.

Wifey has steak frites, loved them, the streak was prepared perfectly.

Wifey's profiteroles; as good as any french bakery

                    The Just Ok

                    - the pineapple upside down cake; honestly no better than any other I have had; maybe my expectations were too high, but i dont understand what the hype is about.

                    - The Braised Ribs; they were season quite nice and cooked well, but the meat was not that high quality; way to grizzily and not was you would expect from a James Beard restaurant

          2. Good, not great.

Late Sunday brunch: Lamb was a bit over-done, with the side spinach over-salted. Scone and beignet spot on. Service decent for Easter, a lot of staff but not attentive enough (for me) service - odd. Dessert was simple and nice. Great location and space. I would go again to try other items.
