Teenager-Friendly, Fun CT Restaurants?

Hi everyone!

I'm a CT native but haven't actually lived in the state for 4 years. I have pretty much zero recollection of the best food spots, so I could really use some help.

I'll be in the state next week and I promised I'd take my 17 year old sister out for a birthday lunch. I'm looking for a place that's fun and appealing to teenagers. In other words, not too uptight, not too fancy, and with simple, yet delicious, foods. My sister isn't into trying new cuisines; she likes her food to be very Americanized (terribly boring, I know). I was excited when I discovered MacDaddy's because that would be right up her alley, but then I found out it's closed because they're expanding the franchise.

At this point, I'm at a complete loss and could use any help you're willing to offer. My current backup plans are either O'Rourke's or one of the pizza joints in New Haven.

As for location, I'm pretty much willing to drive anywhere in the state, but we are from the New Haven area if you know of any gems there.

Thanks in advance!
-Krystal

If you'll be in New Haven and want simple but tasty teenager-friendly food, then just take her for pizza at one of the classic joints there.

I'm going to use that as a backup plan. She's been there before and I would like to find something new.

Archie Moore's Bar & Restaurant on Willow Street.

Carson's Brewhouse in Newington on the Berlin Turnpike. Here are some recent comments:

Please note: if you go to O'Rourke's on the weekend for LUNCH, they only serve the BREAKFAST menu (unless it's DINNER).

Another fun, "Americanized" option for you is Plan B Burgers. Closest location to you would be Glastonbury, so Carson's is probably more practical. And I love both choices, so you and the birthday girl won't be disappointed.

          I second Plan B!

Teens will adore the grown-up atmosphere yet really love the burgers, sweet-potato fries, meat loaf and pot roast.

This is GREAT! I think Plan B might be our place. I called my sister to ask if she'd be into it and her response was "That sounds AWESOME!" Thanks so much for the recommendation.

All three locations are actually about the same distance from my hometown. Is there one that's best?

My pleasure. I've only been to the Glastonbury one and recommend it wholeheartedly. Great, friendly service. Easy to get in and out of, no parking issues...I haven't been to the other locations, so I can only say my experiences in G'bury have been outstanding and hope yours will be, too. Let us know where you wind up and how you like it!

We ended up at Plan B in Glastonbury. Oh my goodness it was AMAZING. Thank you so much for the recommendation. Best burger I have ever had!

Holler. Yes, I think your sister will love Plan B. You could make a lunch of just the cheese fondue and the slider appetizer.
The West Hartford location isn't huge and often has a wait. I've never been to the one in Simsbury as it's been Plan B but when it was One Way Fare it was very large so I'd recommend that one.

There's plenty of places at Mohegan Sun casino that a seventeen year old would enjoy. She willl not be allowed in the gambling area, but there is still plenty of shops and restaurants. There's a couple of Bobby Flay and Michael Jordan places, Big Bubbas Barbecue, Pepes Pizza, Jimmy Buffett's Margaritaville and many more.

Agree with hotwing on the Sun rec's. Margaritaville would be #1 choice, followed by Bubba's. Then you can go shopping in the stores. Spend an extra $5.00 and take her to Lush Cosmetics and have her pick out a fun bath bomb or bubble bath bar! She will love that place.

With all due respect to the ambitious dining offerings at Mohegan, I think the Foxwoods folks out-shine them when it comes to entertaining kids.

But then, I don't have kids so I've never checked them both out, comparatively.

Contact a casino host at either facility; don't sweat not being able to give them a player card number; see what they tell you about their arrangements for young ones. You'll be surprised how cooperative they can be in this economy!

Nearer to New Haven....Sloppy Jose in Milford, a kind of texmex place, or SBC in Hamden, semi-chainish, burgers, salads sandwiches, etc

Closer to home, she may enjoy Prime 16 in New Haven, but not sure how much "fun" it will be, but the food is good.

Hey everyone....I'm reviving this thread because my teenage sisters have asked that I find another "cool" place to take them for dinner as a Christmas present. They loved Plan B but want to try a new place. Any new suggestions since the last bunch? Thanks again!

Does it have to be burgers?

If she likes grilled cheese or mac & cheese, take her to Caseus. I've had good luck bringing young folks there. Really, who doesn't love good grilled cheese?
