Nala Pak closed - at least for the time being

As I was reading the comments to blog posting on another site, I came across a poster's statement that Nala Pak was closed. Surely she meant that it was closed on a Sunday...

I nervously looked at the restaurant's website and found the following: "Due to lease dispute we have closed our restaurant in Columbia Heights. Thank you for Your patronage. As we look for new home, please recheck with us in few weeks." Oh well....

  1. That's no good. Don't they also own the Dancing Geisha downtown? If so, I wonder if the owners are consequently not so concerned about this.

Shoot. Is this a trend for South Asian joints in Northeast/Col Hts? I'm thinking of Pak Zam Zam, Bombay 2 Deli, and Chutney House all closing within a couple of years.

And what of The Vegetarian? Every time I drive by, it does not look open. I got out once got out of the car and peered in...it looks to be in business, it's just that th lights are never one. Anyone know anything about the status of The Vegetarian?

I think The Vegetarian is open, though they do close in the middle of the day, from 3 to 5 p.m. or so.

There's a new vegetarian Indian place, Dosa King, that opened up way further north on Central Ave, in Spring Lake Park: http://www.vegguide.org/entry/11370

I heard rumors that Nala Pak was going to be converted into an all-vegan international bistro venue. But maybe those were just rumors.......and I do know that Nala Pak changed management about a year ago, so I'm not sure if the same people are running Dancing Ganesha and Nala Pak.

I ate at the Vegetarian a few weeks ago after finding Nala Pak had closed, and it was great! The Vegetarian is now one of my favorite Indian places in town. Service is slow, the dining room hasn't seen new carpet or paint in decades, and they push the overpriced and tiny cup of chai (just say no), but the food was excellent. Give it a try!

      2. A quick update: it looks like Nala Pak is permanently closed. A reviewer on Yelp called Dancing Ganesha and they told her/him that this was the case. (http://www.yelp.com/biz/nala-pak-colu...
