Looking to stay in Vail in April for first anniversary and want to grab a good meal, preferably steak. Anyone know of a great steakhouse in Vail? (Or have other suggestions?)

Grouse Mountain Grill in Beaver Creek/Vail...excellent.
    Happy First Anniversary!

If you are looking for a classic steakhouse like Peter Luger or Bern's, you won't find it in Vail or anywhere else in the Eagle River Valley. You might sneak up on a good steak at Grouse Mountain Grill, as Beach Chick suggests, or at Splendido, also in Beaver Creek. Both those places do a serviceable job with their filets and both occasionally offer a strip or ribeye special, but you aren't going to find a list of different cuts of beef. Lancelot in Vail has prime rib, so maybe they have a variety of steaks, but I haven't been there in many years and can't recommend it.

I'm not one to recommend steaks or beef, but twice in the last 2 weeks locals have said the best steaks in the Valley are at CostCo, just waiting for you to cook them. I'd stay away from the place in Lionshead that claims the best hand carved steaks. Sweet Basil has both beef and buffalo steaks. A place to consider might be the Sonnealpe. Check for deals in April. Hopefully, DDavis has some input.

Try Russell's by the Bridge on the main street in Vail Village and be sure to pay extra for the scalloped potatoes - so worth it!
