Downtown Lunch Time Sushi Recommendation

Hi Chowhounds!

I use to have a go to sushi place for lunch that was amazing near my workplace. My favourite was the Spicy Charishi. However, they have change owners and the quality is not the same. They put Prawn tempura in their Spicy Chirashi, which I find very odd.

After a case of food posioning last week stemming from my attempts to find a new go to sushi place, I decided I need help.

I work near BC Place and am willing to walk upto 20 minutes (but not over the cambie street bridge) and spend upto $12 for a good sushi lunch.

I've already tried the following places & it was not good:
Kamiya (the one in Library Square)

Any suggestions would be appreciated!

  1. How about Shuraku on Granville and Robson across from Urban Outfitters? They have really good food.

    1. Have you tried the sushi place at H-Mart food court? I thought it was decent for lunch. You can also get kimbap (Korean sushi) at one of the other stalls for a bit of variety.

edit: Just realized that it is called Matoi and is in the list of the ones you tried.

      1. Thanks VanGrrl! Anything in particular that you would recommend?

Fmed, Matoi was my go to place :( ... the old owener was great, really cared about his food. I still go to the H-Mart if I crave the Beef Noodle soup or Korean Fried Chicken.

Too bad about Matoi. It was good for sure.

At Shuraku, I love the tuna tataki and the sashimi salad. Also, the grilled sablefish lunch set is simply divine.

          2. Sushi Maro is always really good, although the service often doesn't compare to the food. It's by the Roundhouse Skytrain station. Kaide on Richards is also amazing. Yume at Dunsmuir and Seymour does a pretty decent job as well.

            1. How about Urban Sushi? They have a good variety of sushi and really good quality. I think it's actually run by Japanese people.

Never tried the sushi at Shuraku, but their bento boxes are great!
