Staying in the 1st and need help choosing restaurants help

We will be staying at the Castile Hotel in the 1st and would like some suggestions for cafes for breakfast in the area, and also a few places for dinner. We enjoy well prepared food, at a appropriate price. We enjoy eating at Bistros and small restaurants.

Thanks in advance for your help

For breakfast "to go" there is Eric Kayser on rue Danielle Casanova off rue de la Paix. Best are the rolls (my favorite is the olive), which you can get with salted or unsalted butter for an extra charge. Also croissants, pastries, etc. along with coffee, juices. You can eat there, although it is not as atmospheric as eating in a café.

You could also stroll down rue St. Honoré to the tea room at Ladurée on rue Royale for breakfast. It is not a long walk, and their croissants make for a magnificent breakfast. Note, there are two types: croissant tradition and à l'ancienne. Try them, both, see which you prefer. :) Also great, their pain au chocolat pistache.

For morning coffee, a much shorter walk - and much better coffee - is Café Verlet, 256 Rue Saint-Honoré. The second I walk in, the fresh roast coffe makes my knees go weak.

What's up with Chez La Vielle ? What do you mean by 'del Burgo's latest? ' Do they still have the same format of old? Do you know what happened to Marie-Jose?

Well, del B is the chef there now; no idea what happened to M-J, one article mentioned her but my memory fails me. Cannot speak to format but place looks the same, no Philippe Starke makeover there.

I suppose if the new chef keeps the name, I hope it will stay 'cuisine des meres.'

Well, consider you these: ox-tail salad, ravioli of cooked mushrooms, fish, shoulder of lamb simply roasted with roasted garlic cloves and roasted diced potatoes and a sprig of rosemary on the side. Pix at both Soup's blog and mine http://johntalbottsparis.typepad.com/...

As John says, the place is the same. But the times of Gargantuan terrines and pâtés are over. It's a (remarkable) "bistrot de chef" now, where a top chef actually cooks simple dishes for you. My pics are here: http://picasaweb.google.fr/ZeJulot/Ad...

aaah. I was last there 18 years ago, when herself was in the house, and it was open only for lunch. sounds like a return trip is in order.

Is the famous chocolate mousse still on the menu?

Just to add, last year we enjoyed our dinners at Benoit, La Fables de la Fountain, Au Bon Accueil, La Rotisserie du Beaujolais, and lunch at La Cigale Recamier.
