Restaurant suggestions in Harrisonburg, VA?

My husband and I are traveling to Harrisonburg this weekend, and it happens to be his 36th birthday. Any suggestions for really great, splurge-worthy restaurants in the area? Doesn't have to be too fancy, we're just looking for solid food and great atmosphere.

Since we'll be there for a few days, I'd also love to hear any other suggestions for breakfast/lunch. Also, are there any noteworthy specialty food markets in the area we should check out?

Thanks!

    1. You've got to try the Local Chop and Grill House. Here's a blog post about it, which includes a link to the restaurant. Make sure you get there early and hang out in the bar before your reservation -- or just eat in the bar!

      1. I too whole-heartedly recommend Local Chop and Grill House, it should have everything you’re looking for. Perfect for a birthday dinner. It’s no secret I’m a big fan of Taste of India, and I recommend it if your tastes run in that direction.

As for markets, the one I frequent most is the Oriental Food Market on Rt. 42. Good supply of Asian and Latin foodstuffs. There are two indoor Farmers Markets outside of town, and every Sat. morning, there is an open-air Farmer’s Market downtown H’burg, near the parking deck on Water St.

        1. If you'd be willing to drive about half an hour to Staunton, i'd strongly recommend Staunton Grocery. Absolutely incredible!!
