Really good Mexican/Southwest downtown area?
Will be staying at the Manchester Grand and would like something close by.
Secondly, what would be a good restaurant withing walking distance? We're eating at Oceanaire one night and Sally's at the Hyatt one night. So we have 2 free nights and don't want to venture too far away. 'good Wine list is a factor but not mandatory.
Linda, I'm confused. The title of your post is about Mexican food, but the post itself appears to be upscale, contemporary? What is it you're really seeking?
Candelas does upscale Mexican in the Gaslamp, on 4th. Not exactly walkable from the Hyatt, but also not a bad cab ride.
El Vitral also does upscale Mexican but is wildly inconsistent.
If you're really looking for Mexican, you won't find "really good" Mexican food downtown. SD is the land of taco shops most of them decidedly down market. If that's not what you're interested in speak now or you'll get a slew of recommendations for taco shops, taco trucks and hole-in-the-wall Mexican places...none of them terribly accessible without a vehicle.

Sorry I wasn't clear. I really had 2 questions. My brain skips ahead of my fingers sometimes.
We will be in town for 4 nights. We have 2 of them already booked and we would like your help for the other 2 nights.
The title was my first question, in that we were looking for really good Mexican or Southwestern food not too far from our hotel. A 10 minute cab ride would be fine, but we didn't want to venture too far out as we have early morning meetings
My second question was for the other free night we have. I mentioned Oceanaire and Sally's that we already have booked so that you could maybe suggest something different.
Sorry again for the confusion.
