Fishmonger or butcher in Mission Bay/SOMA?

Does anyone know if there are any fishmonger or butcher shops in Mission Bay/SOMA? I'm looking for fresh, sustainable, organic meat and fish! After seeing Food, Inc. I want to avoid buying non-organic and non-humane meats.

I thought there must be some Fish places nearby and now I know! We will be moving to Dogpatch within the next few years as we just bought a condo there. On my next visit I will stop by ABS

I miss that place - Nikko's? - near moshi moshi off 3rd. Roll up garage door, wholesale oriented but friendly enough to the public, good prices, and long gone. Sigh.

Nikko Fish Market was excellent and all the things you mention, including long gone. I really liked that place. There was another Nikko Fish Market in the Sunset later but I could never figure out if it was related.

Mission Market Fish & Poultry is a great place for fish. They do not exclusively stock local/sustainable, but they are very conscientious about labelling and extremely knowledgable about their stock and their souces.

Thanks! I'm going to check out Mission Market Fish & Poultry and Good Life. For some reason, I totally forgot about the shops at Ferry Bldg. I tend to avoid it because of the crowd and expense.

Have you had any problems with freshness of the fish at Mission Market Fish & Poultry? I have been using Sun Fat for fish, because everything there is so fresh (and inexpensive), but they have so few sustainable choices that I need to look elsewhere.

No, not really. I think they do a good job of keeping their stock fresh. But I always survey the items to look for the freshest goods. They always have a good selection.

Is there such a thing at Costco? The only other place that comes to mind that's close is Whole Foods.

I don't recommend buying meat from the WF on Harrison and 4th. I've had multiple problems with freshness, especially on sale items from the butcher case. Stick to seafood there, or get meat at the Potrero branch. You might have better luck with the new Safeway by CalTrain.

If you're further south, the Good Life Grocery on 20th in Potrero Hill carries Atkins lamb, Fulton Valley Farms chickens, etc.

Or there's Trader Joe's.
