How Breakfast for One This AM at Junior's Deli Totaled $26
Don't get me wrong, it was a perfectly cooked "soft" omelet with double avocado and jack cheese melted to the point of soft gooey goodness, a side of bacon and coffee....it's just that I got blind sided by the total of $21 plus change (add to that a $5 tip and there you are). The food was good, and my waitress gave me great service. It just illustrates why I don't take myself out to breakfast on Saturday mornings nearly as often as I used to.
Breakdown:
omelet: $12.50 (I probably paid a buck extra for the "second" helping of avocado - which was beautifully ripe and the cook gave me a "lot" of it)
bacon side: $4.95 (4 slices)
coffee: $2 (I'm pretty sure)
Total with tax (I figured 9.75% when I got home) = $21.34 (I might be a few cents off but this is very close to the actual before tip total)
tip: $5
Oh, well. You picks your food and you pays your money... ;-D>

Sounds like a good breakfast, albeit expensive. For me, I am leaving in 30 minutes for Elite.

You'll probably (almost undoubtedly) spend less and get more...color me green with envy while I blow the dust out of my wallet.

LOL :). I feel your pain. Last week went to The Griddle cafe on Melrose. 2 orders of french toast and 2 coffees. With tip almost $40.00. Yikes! 15 minutes to go...off to Elite!

$12.50 for an omelette at Juniors was the first sign you were going to get fleeced.

I don't feel so bad I spent $1.10 for a sausage McMuffin this morning. Their sauage is good.

It was the damn endorphin high I was on after bashing my brains out for 3 hours on the bike this AM...then I got this urge to treat myself. Next time the Golden Arches where I get to drive under the arches and still keep most of my gold...

Kudos to you - I don't know where you get the drive to circle around in that parking lot next to Primo's for three hours, buttermilk bar in one hand, chocolate-frosted buttermilk bar in the other. It must be the anticipation for the next batch of fresh buttermilks coming out of the kitchen... ;-D>

I was at Primo's this morning, as I am every Saturday just about. But I give the donuts away (well, once in a while I fall prey to the aroma and sneak one). I usually get 16 donuts and they all go to a worthy place that I like to treat. They had a full line up of donuts. The buttermilk bars were just about to come out piping hot but I had to go. I probably wouldn't have been able to resist otherwise...

Come on guy - after killing yourself on the bike for several hours, you wanted to treat yourself - you can't do that at Mickey D;s. You bought yourself an experience - Breakfast at Juniors - and you gotta pay for it! That just goes into the memory.

I used to go to Junior's a lot back in the 70s-early 90s. Good to hear they still have good to great food and service, and it looks like the prices relative to the times haven't changed as well. :)

Who orders bacon in a Jewish deli? ;-)
Why don't you pedal over to Frisco's Fifties Diner for the same thing for about half the price. The service from the roller skating waitresses is good, too.

Somehow those Jewish Deli's seem to know their way around bacon...I can't understand it?
I would be worried about crashing into the roller skating waitresses and we would be nothing but a tangle of wheels, bacon and gooey cheese... (hey, that's not sounding so bad to me after I thought about it.) ;-D>

Frankly $12.5 for an omelet with extra avocado is not out of line. $4.5 for a side of bacon is a little much. $2 coffee, not bad at all (all the refills you want, right?). $5.00 tip, you are overly generous at more than 20%.

I do tip well, but I always tip the hell out of those who work at places like Junior's, (or any of the little coffee shop type places). And my waitress was great. She earned everyone of those dollars by being on top of things (and being pleasant and kind first thing on a Saturday morning).

OK, back from Elite. Great as always. Crystal Shrimp Har Gow, Deep fried Stuffed meat dumplings (really good) Fried taro cake (always love taro), Macau egg custard (fabu) and crispy snow bun (first time ordered and delish). Total with tea and tip $20. Such a bargain for wonderful food.

Sounds wonderful. How was the crowd? You were on the early side so I suspect not bad...

I'd consider breakfast but I'm still full from the torta cubana that I drunkenly ate at 2am last night. Blarghhhh.... :p

lol I left the house on my bike right on the nose of 2 am...dodged all the torta eating imbibers and was back a few minutes before 5...then started thinking about breakfast. I think we're on polar opposite time schedules, Sauce...and I'm back on high protein low carb for a while. I got a side of cottage cheese with the omelet and dry, whole wheat toast. I've pioneered a way to doctor up my cottage cheese that revolves around enough black pepper to make half of Asia sneeze and copious quantities of hot sauce...

sounds like standard deli pricing to me.
the food quality, as you describe it though, sounds a little better than standard deli food.
