Connecticut scallop rolls: Show & Tell!

Pictures being worth a thousand words, let's share scallop roll shots. Here is round one of the scallop roll smackdown:

Bill's--your deck is a fun place to hang out on a sunny day, feasting on seafood...but it's no contest in my book. Which scallop roll would you rather eat? Give me Lenny & Joe's any day of the week...not to mention their coleslaw, which is about as good as it gets ANYWHERE!

I also love the fried scallops at Maine Fish Market, but not the roll itself or the sides--only the scallops. And sorry, no photo. Next time I go!

For now, it's your turn. Show me the scallops!

    1. Love L&J. Try Westfair Fish & Chips in Westport as well - they have the sweetest, juciest sea scallops.

Just found out Westfair IS CLOSED! Which leads to my next question, WHAT is a good substitute for casual/takeout fresh/fried seafood in lower Fairfield County?

        1. re: Jadelise

not sure where you heard that -your post had me concerned so I just called and they have not closed.

          1. re: Ima Foodie

I was jonesing for a clam roll the other day and googled Westfair Fish to phone in my order. The second google result came up "Westfair -CLOSED", so I called the phone number listed and it came up "Disconnected." Whitepages.com has no # listed for them. May I ask what number you're calling to get through? If he's open I would like to let the owner know as this is surely losing customers for him-and I'd still like to get that clam roll.

I just googled it and do not see any sites that indicate it's closed. Here is their website:

              Phone: 203.254.0437

jfood had several wonderful lunches there a few weeks ago. It just celebrated 25 years at the location. The owner chef is not a techie at all and rarely if ever goes to the internet. He just makes great fried fish and seafood.

According to JFood's recent post and CTBites review, Westfair is certainly alive and kicking ass.

        2. Hi Kttyeyes:

I have enjoyed scallops at Lenny & Joe's Fishtale and will try Bill's Seafood soon. If you're in Branford try Lenny's Indian Head my favorite place for scallops. In East Haven down by the beach try the Sandpiper my close 2nd favorite (would have tied but the cocktail sauce is a little peppery). My family raves over their fried oysters too. I'll try to photograph soon!

Thank you. My mom is big on fried oysters--very good to know. And Lenny's Indian Head has been on my mental list for a while. Look forward to your photos! I found having photos very handy for this little exercise. :)

          2. Westbrook Lobster (just west of L&J's across the Clinton line) has a Bay Scallop Roll, but I think not quite as good as Lenny&Joes.

            1. My vote for a scallop roll has to go to Lenny & Joe's. LOVE their scallops and shrimp.
