Stewing hens in San Francisco

michaelnrdx Mar 19, 2010 09:01 PM

I know stewing hens are rarely found anymore, but I hear a lot of talk among elderly Chinese women about how they cooked an "old chicken" in a soup and it was so flavorful. I bet Chinatown sells stewing hens somewhere. Does anybody know where?

I don't know about Chinatown, but both Bi-Rite and Avedano's can get stewing hens. I bought one from Bi-Rite over the holidays that was sourced from Marin Sun Farms. I called around to quite a few places, and it was by far the easiest/fastest to get from one of these stores.
