Casual New Mexican Dining in Dallas?

pschweizer Mar 19, 2010 07:57 PM

Aside from Blue Mesa Grill, where I'm taking my family tomorrow evening, does anyone have a recommendation for a good, casual, moderately priced restaurant in the Dallas area that serves New Mexican cuisine - blue corn tortillas, stacked enchiladas, green chili, crispy chile rellenos, etc.?

Just got back back from a few days of great dining in northern New Mexico and southwestern Colorado and would like to learn where to go around here to satisfy a likely ongoing culinary craving at a reasonable price.

I'm sure there are many, but the only place I know is Via Real.

I wouldn't qualify Via Real as New Mexican and I definitely would not qualify it as "reasonably" priced in respect to Blue MEsa pricing; rather, it's more expensive and upscale.

That's not to say Via Real isn't good or worthy of recommendation.

Via Real's quite upscale and I do remember they used to get lots of recommendations in '07-08. Nice place with white tablecloths and great for impressing out of town coworkers, but all of my experiences with them over the past year have been pretty average, nothing exciting. Wouldn't be my first choice for Mexican in Irving/Las Colinas especially since everything I've eaten there has been bland.

pschweizer, here's some other links that could help.

Anthony's Place sounds promising. Not looking like I'll get to head to Albuquerque this year so will likely check it out with a buddy in FW.
