I went to Speeds on Satruday around noon and had (as usual) a great hot dog. I think, however, that Greg has changed the brand of the hot dog.

re: Delhiwala
Ezra "Speed" Anderson's brand was always Pearl. Greg changed brands two summers ago to Grote & Weigel, not long after he took bought the original Speed out. Gave me quite a bad moment on hearing the news, but I like the new dog just fine.

So Saturday was a similar experience to my first Speed visit-warm and windy. Brought a friend and her dog for their first visit and we both got a dog all the way. Gregg came out and gave her dog some pastrami so he didn't feel left out-lucky dog! My friend loved the dog but told Gregg that she could eat the sauce by itself!

I don't know about "cachet", but I still think Speed's has cachet. Bring a friend, split one pastrami and one dog.

re: MC Slim JB
Great minds think alike..:)
I liked the Speed's pastrami but prefer the LaGrassa version. Glad I tried it but I'll stick to the dog; but do give it a shot.

re: 9lives
Finally had the pastrami - I scarfed down my dog and stared at the remains of a friend's pastrami until it somehow wound up in my possession. That sandwich has great potential, and the meat was amazing, but I think it needs (gasp) the chili, or maybe coleslaw on it to make it perfect. Just the sweet sauce and mustard didn't quite do it. What I loved was the char on the pastrami, the fact that it was nice n' fatty, and that the smoke flavor cut down on the pastrami flavor, making it more like regular brisket.

re: Nab
It was the dog that kept me away until I got the OK on the blood test (who knows what goes into those things?) I couldn't trust myself to just order the healthy pastrami. Also kept me away from La Grassa's (sob). Oh, God, I convinced myself I liked Sebastian's. But I'm back, and ready to make up for lost time...
