Pho Tan Phat in Spring Lake Park has a duck pho weekend special for $8.50 that is well worth the visit.

King's has been mentioned, though I find it overpriced and unspectacular. I've had what I would consider to be better Korean food at a substantially lower price point, but if you're in Fridley, I would hate to discourage you from going there.

Nala Pak is just south of 694, and has some of the more intriguing Indian in town, as well as one of the best buffets.

Great India and New King Buffet are among the best in the Twin Cities in their respective genres. NKB charges $7.50 for a takeout box, and has some great guilty pleasures, including the fried almond condensed milk thingy.

To the East, Barley John's has great beers, solid food, and decent specials (in that order);.

A bit further down Central, you'll find Chimborazo, which is cheap, delicious Ecuadorian food.

There are other places the fit the 10 mi radius, but I think this is a good starting point in terms of easy accessibility from Fridley.

Agree with Kevin on King's. Good but too high priced for us.

      Nala Pak. Great buffet.

In addition, we'll go the bar at the newly renovated Shorewood Grill. The Niklows took it back over, cleaned it up and the food is good for bar fare. We usually get the kabobs, pita with 3 different spreads plus they have other small plates that are healthier than the usual chicken wings and cheese sticks. They have a different special every day.

We also frequent Cru up Central Ave in Blaine. I hope this place makes it; they have to compete with a sports bar at the other end of the strip mall. (Are there any foodies up in the northern burbs!?) They have 2 happy hours a day and a dinner special with a wine pairing a couple times a week.

Starting from Fridley and heading south on Central there are some great spots.

      In Fridley itself there's

Kings Korean - the best Korean in the metro, IMHO.
A Taste of Thailand (on University, not Central) - not the best Thai, but pretty darned good for the suburbs.

Heading south into Columbia Heights there's:

Nala Pak - really good southern Indian. The kind of vegetarian even non-vegetarians enjoy.
Mr. Barbecue - A really good non-chain bbq place that makes their own sauces and sides from scratch.

Kings is the only one among them that tends to be truly expensive, but that's only if you order the expensive items. There's plenty of terrific food there very cheap.

Another great choice for Korean that's nearby is Dong Yang in Columbia Heights. It's a small canteen in the back of a Korean grocery, but great food. It's priced significantly lower than Kings. (I like King's too, btw).

Nala Pak is closed and is looking for a new location.
