What does one do with stale, day-old donuts? [moved from General Topics]

If anything?

Plenty of glazed, chocolate, twists and plain.

Reheating them just made them ... warm stale, day-old donuts ...

Any suggestions?

          Really?

Are they not, um, too airy and fluffy to soak up all the liquids?

              really.

there's also a Paula Deen recipe that calls for canned fruit cocktail...i can't quite bring myself to post the link :) but it's on the FN website if you're curious.

I saw that Michael Chiarello episode. Slightly nauseating. And I love donuts!!

                  boy oh boy, goodhealthgourmet,
we may need to forcibly change your handle.

                  • Split them in half like a bagel, butter them and brown them on a griddle or pan, really good, especially the glazed.

                      1. Grill them on the pit to heat them up and put ice cream on top of them

                          1. 8 seconds in the microwave is what we used to do with day-old Krispy Kremes, imported from out of state.

Absolutely right, but you have to consume them in the next two minutes, or they get even worse.

                                • -waffled - make a monte cristo batter, poke a few holes with toothpicks on the donuts, or cut in half. dip in batter for a few minutes to soak up the batter, then stick in a waffle iron.

                                  - Donut Cake
crush a box of graham crackers and spread in a baking dish. melt a stick of butter with a cup of brown sugar and pour over the cracker crumbs evenly. break up donuts and spread in a layer over the crumbs/butter/sugar. pour a jar of applesauce over the top, then bake at 350.

-Trifle - sub them in for cake, using whatever jams or custards go with the flavors you have

                                    1. I have a friend with an federal alcohol fuel distillers permit and he goes around collecting old doughnuts to make ethanol to run his car.

that sounds like the best idea so far!

                                          • Grind (Food process) add milk, egg, chocolate to form a batter....Bake for brownies!

                                            Fun!

                                              1. Bacon-cheese donut burger. If it bores you, you could deep fry it again...in case you want to slam shut all your arteries.

A dear friend's father feeds his neighborhood squirrel scooter pies - he's the fattest squirrel on record from what I've been told. How the heck does he get away from the cats?

                                                        • Split the donut. Grill with Butter on the cut side. Cook hamburger pattie with cheese. Put donut grilled side down. put pattie with cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion and top wtth other half of donut grilled side up.....
I've made the donut bread pudding. talk abt sugar overload, but it was great.

                                                            1. Take the "cakiest" ones and make cake balls. You can google a recipe for these. The basics are: crumble up the donuts; add some ingredients to bind the "dough" (some people use frosting, I usually use a little milk and a liqueur like amaretto); form generous tablespoonfuls into balls; let set on parchment-lined cookie sheets for a few hours; and then roll in powdered sugar, cocoa, or melted chocolate.

                                                                1. put a couple pieces of white bread in with the donuts - they should revive, bread will be very stale in no time. Gram/Gramp always did this with cookies and donuts. I've tried it, works great.

                                                                    1. re: lexpatti

I have heard of this too, but never have had the chance to try it.

                                                                      • break in pieces, layer with some fruit & yogurt for parfaits

I second the bread pudding recipe. Don't need extra sugar, but you can add fruit to change up the flavor
