Kid Friendly Restaurant near Providence Zoo?
Help! 6 kids, 3 parents and surefire chaos. Where can we eat? Is there a chinese buffet or somewhere kid-friendly and easy on us but not fast food??? Unfamiliar with Rhode Isalnd.

The Liberty Elm diner is right near Roger Williams Zoo. It's definitely informal enough for kids, and everything's homemade. Nothing else is really close by (although PVD's beloved Apsara is only a mile-ish away).

If you get onto Park Ave, it will bring you to Reservoir Avenue in Cranston where there are a few choices. Chelo's is an affordable family restaurant (about ten minutes from the zoo), and right before that there's a Friendly's on the same side of the street. If you pass Chelo's there's Garden City Center on your left with Newport Creamery and Applebee's. Again,. all these restaurants are about ten-fifteen minutes from where you will be - and all very affordable and kid friendly.

re: Bob W
I third Chelo's. My kids love it and it's a real Rhode Island institution.
If you had your heart set on Chinese though, on the same street but before Chelo's, is Galaxy, which is laid-back Asian. (I believe Chinese, Thai, Cambodian, and maybe Vietnamese?) I've had some pretty decent meals there, and it's definitely kid-friendly.
You want to take Park Ave heading West (there's an exit onto Park Ave from Roger Williams Park , which is where the zoo is located). If you take the "Main Exit", it will put you on Elmwood Ave, which you would just take South (it's a left out of the park) until you hit Park Ave, and make a right on Park. You'll take Park Ave heading West, until you hit Reservoir Ave, (there will be a Burger King on your left), and make a left. Galaxy and Chelo's will both be on your right. Galaxy is before the McDonalds, Chelo's is after.
Good luck!

re: dagwood
We hadn't seen this reply before we left for our trip to the zoo unfortunately. We had asked at the zoo, but no one seemed to have ever heard of Chelo's (odd?), so we used our GPS. Since we were headed back to CT (south), the GPS took us to a destination in Warwick that brought us to a Horton's (so clearly it must have closed--my husband needs to update his GPS). So we tried again and it brought us to another Chelo's 2 miles away in Warwick below the airport. It was a perfect kid-friendly place. Reminded me of former Knickerbockers in Milford, CT. I had a lobster club that was quite good and delicious keylime pie for dessert---yummy. My husband enjoyed his burger, and the fussy kids had hot dog and mac n cheese, so they were thrilled. Thanks.
