Visiting East Bay after Moving to Missouri, what's new, delicious and kid-friendly?
So we (tragically) moved to mid-Missouri from Oakland in 2004; now are returning for a visit with 3 young kiddos (7, 5, 1) in tow and want to find out what's new. We are looking for things that don't exist where we live: i.e. no bbq, burgers, etc. Favorite restaurants when we left included arizmendi, dopo, fruitvale taco trucks, east ocean for dim sum, vik's, acme bread, koryo and on and on. Kids are pretty adventurous eaters but aren't suited to fancy dining (nor is our pocketbook.) We will be staying in Berkeley but are open to any suggestions for Oakland/Alameda as well. Would love to hear all about what we've been missing! Thanks!
Your list of favorites still sounds great. Our family narrowly prefers Hong Kong East Ocean in Emeryville for dim sum, and we have stopped going to Koryo in favor of Ohgane for Korean, on Broadway at 40th. For a slightly nicer night out, our kids (12 and 3) have enjoyed the new Lake Chalet -- they even have a kids menu. I can't think of anything else that meets your requirements. Anybody else?

Just a note that Vik's has moved. Dopo has expanded and also has a sister wine bar nearby, Adesso. You might find this recent thread (former Oaklander returns with kids) helpful: http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/690211

La Bedaine on Solano is new and has some great reports here (I haven't been yet).

I moved here from central Missouri a long time ago, but can't imagine no bbq or burgers there :-) Where do you live there?

He meant no bbq or burgers here, because they have them back in Missouri. Be aware that La Bedaine is not a restaurant, it's sort of a cross between a bakery and a deli, with high quality but limited offerings.

Duh, of course. It can be read both ways, but only one way makes sense.

If you do wander over to Solano, try the new-ish Zaki Kabob House on San Pablo. The rotisserie chicken with rice is great. Very family friendly and pretty cheap.

I'm a big fan of Tacubaya in Berkeley. Really great cali mexican food. In a nice area, Berkeley 4th street. On a nice day it's great to sit outside.

Oh yeah, another fun thing is to go to the Temescal farmer's market on Sunday. Great for people watching and good selection of vendors. For younger kids you can walk the greenbelt to Frog Park and then head back to Bake Sale Betty's for fried chicken sandwiches & awesome lemon slushy's. (having problems w/ link's. Just search for Bakesale Betty's for the good & bad, mostly all good in my opinion).
