Help - Restaurants that can accomodate vegans downtown (Scotiabank Theatre)

Meeting a few friends for drinks/dinner before a late movie at John and Richmond. Can anyone suggest vegan friendly places in the vicinity. We aren't looking for a vegetarian specific place - just somewhere nice that has a few vegan options or would be flexible enough to accommodate, within a 10-15 minute walk

Was thinking of Thai or Japanese with good veggie options but am wide option to alternatives???

I also have a similar question. My cousin is very much a meat and potatos type of person and my boyfriend and I (both vegans) are meeting up with him downtown Toronto for dinner. Any suggestions on where to go?

      I live in this neighbourhood.
Some of these were mentioned, but your really good options are:
Fresh at (Queen and Spadina), Sushi Queen (on Queen St closer to University), and Smokeless Joes (a tiny vegan-friendly bar at 125 John Street, check out the chili!).

& You can always check out veg.ca (Toronto Vegetarian Association Directory)

I've only been once for brunch and it wasn't really to my liking. I'm not a vegan. But I thought Fressen was the restaurant for people with your diet.

I was interested in trying Fressen at some point - I had heard good things but you say it's "passable"? Can you elaborate? I know there are some strong anti opinions abiut its sister place Herbivore Magic (?) in Kensington Mkt.

Not sure about all Burrito Boyz but the one out west at Lakeshore and Brown's Line adds dairy to their guac so vegans should ask before ordering it.

Agree with others that the Queen Mum is a good pick... slipped my mind.

i would go to Queen Mother or Hosu like the others suggested. Wouldn't really go to Ematei as it's an authentic Japanese place and a lot of the sauces and pretty much all soups would have Bonito in it. IMO you can probably find a few items for vegetarians but not vegans. Queen Mother or Hosu probably get enough people asking for vegan food that they'd know exactly what to do.

For a not specifically vegetarian restaurant, the Queen Mother is very vegetarian/vegan friendly. It's right around the corner on Queen just east of John.

Fresh was my first thought too.

Ematei on St. Patrick has a pretty comprehensive izakaya style menu so you might find some suitable vegan options there.

Vegetarian Haven on Baldwin is probably a 15-20 minutes walk. Fine for vegans, but not good for cocktails (as we discovered last week) since they don't have a liquor license.
