There are several. Just search for SF breakfast and you will get a lot of links. Within walking distance is Dotties loved by many. Sears is always blasted as a tourist spot but I still love their simple french toast - it is buttery and nicely grilled almost savory slices of toast - not a goopy bread pudding thing....

if you're looking for something mellow, i like going to cafe de la presse...it's convenient, not as packed as sears, good food, lots of magazines and i like the french bistro vibe of the place. be warned that sometimes the french bistro vibe comes with french bistro service...
me: can we have some coffee for me and a decaf for my pregnant wife
waitress w/ thick french accent: no problem
...10 minutes later after the waitress finally brings our coffee...
me: that was decaf, right?
waitress: i can't remember...don't worry the coffee is weak..
us: awkward silence

I love Cafe de la Presse. Had breakfast this past weekend with the parents and all of us were quite pleased -- both with the food and the service.

Brenda's French Soul Food is a favorite of mine.
The biscuits are stunning, the beignets wicked, and there isn't a single dish I haven't enjoyed so far.

Canteen is relatively close and might fit the bill. Sat and Sun only for breaky I believe. Come by 9:30 to avoid a wait (it is very small).
